Marrakech, Morocco and Toronto, ON – Environmental Defence spokespeople are available for interviews this week and next from Marrakech and Toronto about the U.N. climate conference.
Citizens hope that the Conference of the Parties (COP22) will continue global momentum on climate change, building on last year’s U.N. Paris Agreement. The Moroccan government hosting the climate summit wants the focus to be on greater action between now and 2020, to start to close the gap between the strong goals of the Paris Agreement and the weaker national commitments.
In order for meaningful outcomes to be possible in Marrakech, Canada and other countries must commit to greater climate action. The Canadian government must lay out how it will take action on carbon emissions now, and how it will increase assistance to developing countries in their efforts to adapt to climate change impacts already hitting them.
