Summer and the beach go hand-in-hand. Whether building sandcastles, splashing in the water or tossing a Frisbee, beaches are where summer memories are made. And they are places we want to protect for future generations.

This August, we invite you to help us celebrate and care for the Toronto’s beaches. Eight of the city’s beaches have been awarded the Blue Flag. In fact, this year marks the 10th year in a row that Blue Flags have been raised in Toronto – something worth celebrating!

We’ve also partnered with Corona Canada to adopt one of the only beaches in Toronto without a Blue Flag: Sunnyside Beach. By giving Sunnyside some love, we’re bringing it a little closer to meeting Blue Flag standards for environmental management.

Tomorrow, you can take part in the beach adoption by volunteering at a beach cleanup from 5 – 7 p.m. Help us put litter in its place and have a positive impact on the shoreline ecosystem, all to the tunes of the Sidewalk Crusaders. We will provide garbage bags and gloves for volunteers. Make sure to bring sunscreen and water, and wear comfy clothes and shoes.

You will want to get there early because the first 200 people (aged 19 or over) will receive a complimentary ticket to the Corona SunSets Festival* happening August 16th at Hanlan’s Point Beach. Watch the sun set over a beautiful Blue Flag beach and dance the night away to DJ sets by:

  • Moby

  • Cajmere

  • Thievery Corporation

  • Lee Foss & Anabel Englund

  • and MORE!

While at the beach, be sure to also check out the pollinator garden we recently planted. The garden will help attract and provide food for pollinators, such as butterflies, bees and moths, whose populations have been under threat in recent years.

*Must be 19 years-old or older to attend the concert. ID required. Only one ticket per person.
